There are several types of construction equipment that are commonly seen, each with their own set of uses. Many of these pieces of equipment have serve an individual purpose. If you’re looking for something to move soil or lift things, you have a few options. As we go through this article, we will discuss the most common types of construction equipment and their uses.

Articulate Trucks

The most commonly known form of an articulate truck is an articulated dump truck or articulated hauler. Dump trucks are used to disperse dirt around a construction site. These machines have two parts. The first is the cab, which is where you would sit and maneuver the equipment over the rough terrain. The second part is the truck bed or the trailer. It is used to haul very heavy loads. These two parts are connected by the pivot, or what we would know as a type of hitch. It connects the two pieces and makes it easier for it to turn.

Asphalt Pavers

Construction sites usually need to lay asphalt or concrete for roads, bridges, or parking lots. When this process is starting, the type of equipment you’ll need is an asphalt paver. This type of equipment is paired with a dump truck and a roller. The dump truck will pour the asphalt and the paver follows. While some compaction is done by the paver, the roller will follow and finish the process.

Bulldozer

A bulldozer is easily recognizable. They are seen quite often. Not only are they construction equipment, but these are toys for kids, and the stars of kid shows. A bulldozer is easily recognized by the large, flat blade on the front. That blade is used for pushing large amounts of soil or gravel around. If you need to push materials a short distance, this would be a great tool to use.

There are two different types of dozers: wheel dozers and track dozers. They do the same thing but they move differently. The track dozers disperse the weight evenly over the ground. The tracks on here are in place of wheels. The tracks on this machine decrease the amount of pressure on the ground which reduces the chance of sinking into the ground. The wheel dozer can move up to three times faster than the track dozer because of the large wheels. Te type of dozer you’ll need depends on the job being completed.

Loader

There are two types of this machine, also. Track loaders and wheel loaders. Firstly, the tracks on the track loaders are used to prevent sinking into soft ground. This type of equipment is similar to the skid steer loader, but much bigger. It is used to lift, move, and push. It moves a much large scale of material than the skid steer loader.

Similarly, the wheel loader also lifts, pushes, and moves material.  It moves faster because of the wheels, but that makes it susceptible to leaving tire tracks all over the site. This is because the weight is not evenly distributed like it is with the tracks.

In Summary

As you can see there are a lot of different types of equipment that are used commonly and quite often. Above all, these pieces of equipment all serve a purpose and have their own uses.
